An FA statement reads: “Arsenal FC have been charged with a breach of FA rule E20.1 following their Premier League match against Newcastle United FC on Tuesday, January 3 2023.

“It is alleged that Arsenal FC failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion in the 95th minute, and the club have until Tuesday, January 10 2023 to respond.”

The Premier League leaders saw a late penalty appeal turned down late in Monday’s 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium, a game which saw nine yellow cards dished out by referee Andy Madley.

Shortly after defender Gabriel went to ground inside the penalty area under pressure from Dan Burn, a cross into the Newcastle box appeared to ricochet against Daryl Murphy’s arm.

Desperate protests from Arsenal players followed as head coach Mikel Arteta screamed at the fourth official as he ran up and down the touchline.

After the game, Arteta described both decisions as “scandalous”, telling Sky Sports: “It is not about which one was stronger, we had two penalties. I am not talking about the referee, I am talking about what I saw and that was two scandalous penalties.”
