The goalless draw to Newcastle United saw tensions run high among players and fans of both sides.

However, Arsenal missed a solid chance to set a 10-point lead ahead of second-placed Manchester City. Two controversial decisions by referees led to the draw, much to the chagrin of Mikel Arteta.

Towards the end of the game, Arsenal were denied a last-minute penalty after the ball appeared to hit Jacob Murphy’s arm. A brief VAR check prompted the referee to stick to his original decision of letting the incident slide.

Arteta was absolutely furious on the touchline and he strode out of his technical area to make his feelings known to the fourth official.

That move appeared to irritate Eddie Howe, who also joined in to have a word with Arteta. Both managers were visibly angry and exchanged some heated words.

Finally, their respective coaching staff had to separate them and minutes later, the final whistle was blown.
