Everton player ratings from Connor O’Neill after the 3-0 win against Burnley in the Carabao Cup
Everton are through to the next round of the Carabao Cup after beating Burnley 3-0 at Goodison Park.
The quarter-final draw takes place later this evening with Sean Dyche’s men in the hat – along with neighbours Liverpool. Arsenal were knocked out tonight, with Manchester City already dismissed.
The Blues were 1-0 up at the break after an early James Tarkowski header – set up by fellow former Burnley man Dwight McNeil – gave them a deserved lead.
Amadou Onana added a second early in the second half, poking in from close range, before Ashley Young wrapped it up late on. Here is how Connor O’Neill rated every Everton player:
Jordan Pickford – 6
Very little to do in terms of saving shots, but he produced a fine piece of skill with his feet during the second-half, and his distribution was also very good.
Ashley Young – 7
A much calmer performance than his last one. Produced a good block during the first-half, but could have offered more of an outlet going forward. Move into midfield for the final 20 minutes and managed to net his first goal for the club.
James Tarkowski – 7
A commanding display from the centre-back. Dealt with the threat of Jay Rodriguez really well and opened the scoring with a fine header.
Jarrad Branthwaite – 8
Another Rolls Royce performance from the centre-back. He produced a superb block in the first-half to deny a Burnley equaliser, and plays like a midfielder when in possession.
Vitalli Mykolenko – 7
Another really impressive display from the left-back. Got forward as much as he could and didn’t give Mike Tresor a sniff. Getting better and better.
Jack Harrison – 6
Another frustrating night for the winger. Some of his play was neat and tidy, but just like on Sunday, his end product was lacking.
Amadou Onana -7
Guilty of giving the ball away too cheaply in the first-half, but his driving runs from deep help Everton get up the pitch. Replaced with 11 minutes to go.
James Garner – 7
Produced a vital interception top prevent a Burnley equaliser during the opening 45 minutes. A cool and composed figure in the middle of the pitch.
Dwight McNeil – 7
Claimed two assists with two great ball into the box and was full of energy. Certainly silenced the Burnley fans who were booing him at the start.
Arnaut Danjuma – 5
Replaced just after the hour after struggling to get into the game. Couldn’t link up the play with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and nothing came off for him.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 6
Battled hard up top, especially when his side were under pressure during the end of the first-half. However, he never really looked like scoring. Replaced just after his side went 2-0 up.
Substitutes
Nathan Patterson – 6
Kept things simple and ensured his side picked up another clean sheet.
Idrissa Gueye – 6
Pressed well and kept things ticking with his side comfortably ahead.
Abdoulaye Doucoure – 6
Added some much needed energy to his side and played a role in a couple of chances for his side.
Beto – 6
Missed two great chances to score, but he did set up Ashley Young after a fine run.
