Leeds United defender Rasmus Kristensen has told FC Midtjylland’s official website that he is desperate to rejoin the club after leaving the Danish side in 2018 to join Ajax – describing a return to his boyhood club as a “dream”.
Kristensen, 25, joined Midtjylland as a 15-year-old, and went on to play 82 games for the Superliga giants. He went to Ajax in 2018 and while it did not work out at Ajax, his career has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years.
Salzburg turned out to be a revelation for the defender, scoring 14 goals in 109 games from right-back and winning a league and cup double three years in a row. Then, last summer, a move to Leeds – largely thanks to Jesse Marsch.
It has been a tricky first season but now, under his fourth manager in Sam Allardyce, Kristensen has been moved into the middle of the defence – and he has impressed. But he says he’d love to rejoin Midtjylland at some point.
“I will hopefully come home to Midtjylland, if I’m still welcome at that time. I have always had a dream to come back. Ever since I moved to Ajax, I have always thought one day I will end up at FCM. It’s something I’ve never hidden.”

Kristensen is one of those players likely to remain at Leeds this summer, regardless of what division Leeds are in. While he might like to leave given he is in Denmark’s squad ahead of Euro 2024, he has not done enough at Leeds.
Like Brenden Aaronson and Marc Roca, these players are top-tier – but they have performed poorly this season on the whole. Interest in them seems unlikely given the lengths of their contracts, as they only joined last summer.
But he is still young and in terms of his contract, there is no reason why Kristensen would not rejoin Midtjylland later in his career – perhaps, in his thirties. His Leeds deal is due to expire at the end of the 2026-27 season.
