Arsenal and Liverpool fans have been dealt a transfer blow as Ismael Bennacer now looks to be off the market.

WHAT’S THE STORY?

Well, it was Calcio Mercato Web in Italy who revealed that Arsenal are interested in the Algeria international.

Elsewhere, Calcio Mercato claimed that Liverpool are monitoring Bennacer as Jürgen Klopp eyes midfield reinforcements.

Now, however, both Mikel Arteta and the German will have to look elsewhere.

Fabrizio Romano believes the 25-year-old will sign a new contract with AC Milan today, putting an end to speculation about the France-born midfielder’s future.

The reliable Italian journalist states that Bennacer will commit himself to AC Milan until June 2027, which will come as a relief to AC Milan as his current terms were set to expire within 18 months.

So far this season, the AC Milan No.4 has impressed at the San Siro as he aims to help the Italian giants defend their Serie A title.

Bennacer has made 24 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal while also providing one assist from defensive midfield.

ARSENAL & LIVERPOOL CAN STILL SIGN BENNACER

For now, it seems as if Bennacer and AC Milan will continue their story together.

However, Romano adds that a €50m (£44m) release clause has been negotiated into the midfielder’s new contract, which becomes active in June 2024.

Therefore, if Arteta and Klopp remain interested in Bennacer when the summer of 2024 comes around, a deal should be quite straightforward to complete as there will be no need to negotiate a fee with AC Milan.

If the Gunners and the Reds want reinforcements in the midfield department now, both have alternatives.

Romano believes Liverpool admire Manu Kone of Borussia Monchengladbach.

In regards to Arsenal, Corriere dello Sport state they have an interest in Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Keep an eye on both clubs, as we expect them to be active in the market this month.
