Discussing the Premier League title race this season, Pep Guardiola told reporters: “The advantage of Arsenal is he [Mikel Arteta] has not to win the Premier League from 20 points in front in November.
“The way they played against Newcastle again impressed me a lot. They dropped two points but they didn’t drop the quality [with which] they played. This is my feeling.
“I don’t know what is going to happen in the future – I’ve said many times I can’t answer that. The advantage of Arsenal and Manchester United right now is nobody has to win the Premier League for 20 points ahead in November like Man City has to – and this is sometimes a big problem.”
The City manager added: “But what I want to see is still us fight, don’t give up, not now, until the last chance, until the last drop of water we can fight to win the Premier League and the moment we are not able to win the PL we have to be ready to compete next season.”
That’s basically a polite way of saying no one expected Arsenal or United to do well in 2022/23 but here we are.
While the Gunners are 8 points ahead of City, United are just one point behind Guardiola and co in the league table.
We don’t know about United but it looks like Pep is refusing to accept the reality of Arsenal beating them to the title.
