Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans has been linked with Arsenal for years, but those reports became even more insistent last year as the player neared the end of his contract.

However, now that the Belgian has entered the final six months of his deal with Leicester, there’s not even a single report claiming that Tielemans is close to joining the Gunners.

According to The Telegraph, this has to do with the player’s wage demands. They were so high that Arsenal never even entered negotiations with Leicester over a potential transfer.

That said, Arsenal retain an interest in Tielemans and could well move in the summer when they wouldn’t have to pay any fee to Leicester.

Mikel Arteta was the driving force behind the Gunners’ interest in the midfielder from the start. Now, he has even more credit in the bank and might be finally granted his wish.

In January, however, the focus is on attacking targets, with Mykhailo Mudryk being Arsenal’s priority.
